xxxcomputerartOTTAWA, Canada – Web consultant Quintaris and domain marketer Pool.com have joined forces to take pre-orders for some of the anticipated gTLDs that will come on the marketplace next year, including .XXX.

Not one of the domains listed as available for pre-order on the companies joint website actually exists yet, however, a situation that will only “add confusion to an already crazy process,” according to domainnamewire.com.

“The service accepts pre-orders for second level domain names on about 50 top level domain names that it thinks will be pursued. Customers can also pre-order a domain for any top level domain they can think of,” says domainnamewire.com. “The pre-orders will have no official standing with the registries that ultimately offer any of these top level domain names. (Unless a registry decides to work with Pool and honor the pre-orders). The idea is to gauge the amount of interest in particular TLD, and to either sell the accumulated data to potential domain developers or use it to decide which domains to itself promote.

The Terms and Conditions link on the combined Pool.com/Quintaris website goes to the Pool.com T&C page, where the following terms regarding pre-ordering future gTLDs can be found:

New generic top level domains (gTLDs) are coming. ICANN will be accepting proposals from interested parties to establish new gTLDs. There is no guarantee that any of these applications will be approved. However, in the event a new gTLD application is approved, Pool.com intends to provide a domain acquisition service for these new gTLDs.

“In support of this domain acquisition service, Pool.com is accepting pre-orders for domains in all proposed new gTLDs. There is no initial fee for placing a pre-order. A pre-order is similar to a backorder in that it represents a commitment to purchase the domain in the event Pool.com is successful at securing the domain on your behalf.

“In the event the gTLD in question is approved by ICANN and the gTLD is launched, your pre-order will be registered with Pool.com as a backorder. At such time, Pool.com may request additional information from you to complete your account profile for both whois and billing purposes.
