Wrongly_convictedFORT WORTH – File this one under Oops, I’m from Texas.”

A Dallas woman’s name and photo erroneously were placed on the state’s sex offender website in 2003 by The Texas Department of Public Safety, which has since removed the posting and issued an apology for the error.

However, Rachel Marquez, 20, has not decided whether the apology will suffice. She told a local television station that she has obtained legal counsel and is considering her options.

“I don’t know how many people have seen it or how many jobs it has cost me,” she told KXAS-TV. “I’m just now finding this out.”

According to a DPS official, a data entry person apparently checked the sex offender box on Marquez’ entry form by mistake after she was detained at the age of 13 for a minor trespassing complaint. It wasn’t until Marquez tried to rent an apartment and was denied that she learned of the listing. They cited her status as a registered sex offender.

Adding irony to injury, Ms. Marquez, a mother of two, is a criminal justice student at Remington College in Garland, Texas.
