GAYVN magazineChanges are in the works at AVN Media Network … again. GAYVN Editor in Chief Harker Jones and advertising sales associate Rick Loveland were let go Thursday, leaving the magazine without discernible staff.

That’s right: Jones and Loveland composed the entire contingent at AVN’s gay outlet.

Of course, AVN’s main competitor, XBIZ, has no gay staff, either. Maybe all this means is that the gay side of the adult biz will be able to avoid shrapnel from the lawsuit currently playing out between the adult industry’s two trade pubs (who really don’t care for each other all that much).

So where does this leave the product? We’re as uncertain as anyone else. Due to flagging advertising sales, the print magazine, once a standalone, was folded into Adult Video News last year. The 2009 GAYVN Awards, the so-called “Oscars of gay porn,” were co-produced with NakedSword. All of the writing for GAYVN‘s website, Gay.AVN.com, is produced by a freelancer (whose time and dedication necessarily are limited).

We’re hoping GAYVN gets its feet back under it. Losing one of the few news and information outlets not affiliated with a studio, pay-site empire or video-on-demand provider would be a shame.
