LOS ANGELES—Here is Philip and Baby Hand, I think. Philip is smiling—obviously—but he also looks as if he is giving Baby Hand the chance to say something to the camera. Because it is a still and I don’t remember the photo being taken, it’s hard to know if that is Baby Hand or not, but it looks like it is. If I hadn’t said anything no one would be the wiser about Baby Hand, which is probably best but it’s too late. At any rate, the positive energy and engaging disposition emanating from my precious son goes a long way to explain why, so many other factors notwithstanding, life is so very sweet. Philip is seven years old and in first grade. He loves to read and write and (sometimes) speeds through his math homework.
