ShirtlessGuy_052809NEW YORK – Cities in Oklahoma and Texas topped Men’s Health magazine’s list of places where men are most likely to suffer erectile dysfunction, according to an article in the publication’s June issue.

Tulsa, Okla., and Lubbock, Texas, ranked Nos. 1 and 2 on the list, followed by Arlington (4) and Fort Worth (5), Texas, and Oklahoma City (6).

That means five of the six top (or bottom, depending on perspective) cities on the list are in Texas or Oklahoma.

So much for the cowboy mystique.

Also on the list are Charleston, WV (3); Anchorage, Alaska (7); Bakersfield (8) and Modesto (9), Calif., and Omaha, Neb. (10).

The cities where the most naturally virile men reside? From top to bottom, the 10 are Boston; Hartford, Conn.; Washington; Atlanta; Burlington, Vt.; Durham, NC; Jersey City and Newark, NJ; San Francisco and New York.

Considering the rumored mob connections of the two New Jersey cities on the “most virile” list, perhaps there is something to the legend of the “Italian stallion,” after all.

In compiling the lists, Men’s Health considered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s rates of three critical ED risk factors: smoking, obesity and diabetes. In addition, the magazine looked at the number of urologists per capita and the volume of ED drug prescriptions filled.

A handy interactive map ranking major U.S. metropolitan areas on the Viagra scale can be found here.

The ED revelation followed by a month the magazine’s disclosure of the cities where men have the best sex lives. To reach those conclusions, Men’s Health factored in indicators like the numbers of condoms consumed, birth rates and reports about sex toy sales.

According to Men’s Health, men are having the most sex in Indianapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Cincinnati; Salt Lake City; San Antonio, Texas; Denver; Austin, Texas; Boise City, Idaho, and Chicago, in that order.

Note the lack of overlap between the “best sex” list and either of the ED lists. Hm.

The “worst sex” list doesn’t overlap with the ED lists, either, except in the case of Jersey City, NJ. If Men’s Health’s analysis is accurate, men in Jacksonville, Fla.; Greensboro, NC; Jersey City, NJ; Providence, RI; Newark, NJ; Montgomery, Ala.; Yonkers, NY; Manchester, NH; Birmingham, Ala., and Lexington, Ky. have the worst sex lives.

That men in Jersey City are among both the most naturally virile and the most sexually deprived is confusing, at best.
