phil_spectorLOS ANGELES – It took two trials, six years and Lord only knows how much money, but late Monday Phil Spector, the legendary music producer and fatal eccentric, finally faced a jury’s verdict regarding the mysterious events that took the life of Lana Clarkson in 2003.

In a decision that surprised no one, including the defendant, Spector was found guilty of murder in the second degree, a sentence that carries a possible 18 years in prison, a virtial life sentence for the 68-year-old.

In  perhaps the greatest surprise of the day, despite objections by his defense team, Spector was taken into custody immediately.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Spector’s attorney, Doron Weinberg, said his client will appeal the verdict, citing evidentiary problems

“We believe analytically there is absolutely no legal basis for the admissibility of [certain] evidence,” the lawyer said.

According to the Times. the virtually unknowable nature of what happened in 2003 when Clarkson was shot in Spector’s home after several hours of drinking, led to a difficult decision based on little more than deuling scientific experts. The jury reached its decision after 27 hours of deliberation.
