the_girlfriend_experience WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University will host a screening of director Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience April 30, followed by a question-and-answer session with the film’s star, Sasha Grey. The screening is part of the university’s Meet the Artist series, a partnership between Film and Visual Media Studies chair Alice Kelikian and film industry analyst and Brandeis alum Scott Feinberg.

Grey, of course, is among the most sought-after stars in the adult entertainment industry, despite having more than 150 adult features under her belt since entering the industry in 2006. Her cool demeanor, wanton sexuality and acting chops caught the eye of Soderbergh, who cast her as the lead in his drama about a $2,000-an-hour escort.

In January, a screening of The Girlfriend Experience at the Sundance Film Festival received good to excellent reviews. The film is set to premiere April 29 at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by the screening and Q&A at Brandeis the next evening. The April 30 screening will begin at 7 p.m. in the Edie and Lew Wasserman Cinematheque (inside the Sachar International Center).

“We’re delighted to be hosting not only one of the year’s most buzzed-about films, but also its star, whose performance and unique career path should provide for a fascinating discussion,” Feinberg said. “The primary goal of our series has been to bring filmmakers of all sorts and backgrounds to campus so that students can learn from their successes and failures. Our guests, thus far, have included four Oscar nominees, one ex-con, and one ‘sexiest woman in the world.’ Each one of them has shared unique and valuable insights with students, as will Ms. Grey.”
