image4971567NEW YORK – A new CBS News/ New York Times poll shows a 9 percent increase in the number of Americans who say same-sex couples should be allowed to legally marry, from 33 to 42 percent of the population in jone month.

67 percent agree that either marriage or civil unions should be allowed, and 26 percent of Americans still believe there should be no recognition at all for same-sex couples.

“As has historically been the case on this issue, liberals are more likely to support same sex marriage. Sixty-nine percent support the idea, while conservatives generally favor either civil unions (28 percent) or no legal recognition (44 percent),” CBS News reported.
