stripperSOUTH AYRSHIRE, Scotland – Pole dancing may be coming to Ayr, a small community on the rugged south western coast of Scotland, but it is hardly making a stampede to the stage.

A conservative local government is currently in power, but the people have the final say when they vote June 1 to decide whether to allow a local businessman can open a pole-dancing club. Businessman Forbes Robertson has been trying for two years to get permission for pole dancers to perform at his MillionAyr casino.

Rules already have been proposed and presented to the licensing board this week, and state that adult entertainment should be strictly for over 18-year-olds and fully visible to the public visiting the premises.

Performers may not touch or be touched by customers and there should be a distance of at least three feet between performers and customers. Also, CCTV cameras must be installed to monitor all areas where adult entertainment takes place.

Performers should have dedicated private changing, washing and toilet facilities separate from public facilities.

Robertson says he has no problem with the rules. “I already have a building warrant in place to create toilets and changing facilities for the dancers. I’m all for these guidelines and I’m pleased that the council have put them together and are now asking the public what they think.” He says that his policy would be even more strict than the council’s guidelines, and that the club will have an over-21 policy instead of over-18.

There are even more restrictive obligations that will be imposed on the club as well, according to the Ayrshire Post. Pole dancing may be coming to Ayr, but slowly and cautiously, and one step at a time.
