glenn_beckI try to avoid hyperbole, but Glenn Beck truly is a moron. I know, he’s a rodeo clown riding a load of bull that’s catapulted him to the top of the world, ma, and that’s a beautiful thing to watch if you’re a media cynic like me, but it’s his ignorance of the world that continues to amaze me.

Watching him exhibit his uniquely petulant strain of ADD on his show, I marvel at his apparent inability to stay on any subject for a nanosecond, but when he starts prattling on about history, that’s when I tend to lose it.

His latest truly is a guilty pleasure. The comments were made on Greta Van Susteren’s show last night, where he was ‘reporting’ from The Alamo. lol

“Does the individual have any rights anymore? Does the state have any right any more? And I know, because I’ve heard it, from all of the conservative, uh, you know, uh, historians…and scholars, and everything else. But you can’t convince me that the founding fathers wouldn’t allow you to secede. The Constitution is not a suicide pact. And if a state says, I don’t want to go there, because that’s suicide, they have a right to back out. They have a right.”

There’s more, of course; the guy hasn’t a clue when to shut up. It’s not the rambling that alarms, but his apparent ignorance of the fact that we already fought a Civil War to keep the Union whole. And, as modern conservatives are fond of pointing out, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. So what the hell is he talking about? Does he have a clue?

But even better are his first two juxtapositions. The individual has no rights anymore. The state has no rights anymore. Uh, okay, what’s left? Again, I know, he meant ‘states,’ but was unable to articulate it. Somehow, that, too, must be the fault of the federal government. Sheesh.

This guy is the poster child for all opinionated-but-can’t-be-bothered-with-the-details blowhards.
