x-filesDALLAS – Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted an early-morning raid last week on a Dallas ISP, Core IP Networks, and in the process cut off service for about 50 clients of the service that had nothing to do with the investigation.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the FBI hauled away millions of dollars in computer equipment and servers, not only preventing customers of the ISP from being able to access their email and databases, but also keeping about 100,000 customers from having full access to 911 service.

The FBI declined to say who is under investigation, but the owner of the ISP, Matthew Simpson, told the paper that the feds are after a former client who may have illegally downloaded movies.

Simpson said it may take several days for everyone’s service to be restored, and was clearly frustrated by the entire episode.

“It’s like an apartment building,” he said. “If you have 500 tenants and one of them has a meth lab inside his apartment, they don’t hold the apartment liable for that guys actions. But that’s what the FBI is trying to do here.”
